The cornerstone of liberalism is the liberty to exercise free choice…or at least that’s what we are told. Transgenders should have access to the bathroom of their choice. Homosexuals must be permitted to be as vulgar and provocative as they desire in public parades. Smoking dope must be protected and, of course, a woman’s right to terminate an unborn life is fundamental. However, poor families that live in urban blight are told school choice is not an option but not to worry, the children have been liberated to choose their own behavior. Several public school teachers have informed me that education is virtually a thing of the past---crowd control is the axiom of the present. Conservative guest speakers are shouted down on college campuses, allowing no opportunity to hear another viewpoint. When a school district seeks to implement choices in certain curriculum, particularly in sex education or evolution, lawsuits are sure to follow.
The sovereignty of America must be rejected which denies us the right to choose who may enter our nation. The results of a national election are to be accepted unless the choice of the electorate differs from the Democratic candidate, in which case full throttle resistance is required. The Left is not serious about the freedom of choice…the only options that can be tolerated are of their selection. These attitudes represent pure totalitarianism which should be refused by every American with the ability to think beyond the end of their nose. But therein lies the problem….the modern media and educational system have long since departed from advocating critical thinking in favor of selective propaganda.
The “dumbing down” of America was initiated by a slow but determined discarding of the Bible as a reference point for individual autonomy. If the Creator had intended for us to be robotic, human will would not be part of our DNA. Genuine choice is a God-given right which is evidenced by the majority of the Scriptures being dedicated to the strong encouragement toward proper decisions. In similar fashion, a good amount of space is given over to the consequences of wrong choices. The story of the prodigal son illustrates this perfectly, but it is only one of hundreds of examples featuring the good, bad and ugly of individual determinations.
Choosing right goes deeper than doing right. It is written that King Amaziah “did that which was right in the sight of the Lord, but not with a perfect heart” (II Chronicles 25:2). As long as Amaziah stayed on the correct course, God prospered him with victories, but his heart led him to eventual apostasy and defeat. The prodigal son’s heart was in the far country long before his body arrived there. In Biblical terms, the heart is the seat of our emotions and affections. To understand this is to grasp the methodology of liberalism which always frames critical issues on the canvas of emotions. The appeal is never to logical common sense answers but is intended to tug at the heart strings of sympathy or guilt. Healthcare or immigration solutions are never offered on sound economic reasoning. The preferred petition is made up of relentless, powerful, tear-jerking illustrations. If Leftists can get your heart, they have you; this explains their concentration of efforts in education. God’s summary is “foolishness is bound in the heart of a child; but the rod of correction shall drive it far from him” (Proverbs 22:15). “The rod” has many applications in Scripture, but perhaps the one of greatest significance is found in Isaiah 11:1 where it is compared to Jesus Christ. His ability to offer excellent course corrections to foolish hearts is unparalleled---hence, all liberal artillery is aimed at God’s Word.
To suggest that a Satanic plot is afoot would be considered reactionary, at the very least, by those who “…err, not know the scriptures” (Matthew 22:29). However, the “proof of the pudding” is discovered in what or who God has chosen and the opposition those choices have generated. One need look no further than the ethnic group God designated to deliver a Saviour to mankind: “thou are the Lord the God, who didst choose Abram” (Nehemiah 9:7), followed by “For the Lord will have mercy on Jacob, and will yet choose Israel, and set them in their own land” (Isaiah 14:1). Humanly speaking, it is hard to understand why such a small nation, with a people so few in number, who wish only to be left alone, should cause such animosity amongst its neighbors and so much controversy among the nations of the world! During the progression of all history, never has there been a people that have been singled out as an object of hatred, the universal scapegoat, more that the Jews. There is no explanation for this other than being a result of God’s choice.
The Lord has chosen life and encourages us to do the same (Deuteronomy 30:15-20), but a culture of death permeates liberalism. From abortion mills to the streets of Chicago, evidence abounds. Divine wisdom is communicated to us through the Scriptures; consequently, the Left has eradicated them from the public schools. The general rule is, what God has chosen will find adversaries in the ranks of Progressives.
We may be assured that God will have the last word: “I also will choose their delusions, and will bring their fears upon them; because I called, none did answer; when I spake, they did not hear; but they did evil before mine eyes, and chose that in which I delighted not” (Isaiah 66:4).
