The controversy about transgenders in the military provides the Left with another opportunity to accuse Conservatives of being mean spirited and discriminatory. Asking for God’s opinion is never included in the discussion because it just may be counterproductive to the Liberal agenda. In an effort to be as irritating as possible, we shall explore a Biblical response which, as usual, rubs the fur on the cat the wrong direction.
“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: so God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him: male and female created he them.” (Genesis 1:26,27) When God said “our image,” the indication is clear that He is a trinity which is called the “Godhead” in Romans 1. This is confirmed by the sun which illustrates the Godhead. (See Malachi 4:2) This singular body has three types of rays: 1.) Heat rays you can feel but not see. 2.) Light rays you can see but not feel. 3.) Actinic rays which you can neither see nor feel. These match, first of all, the Holy Spirit whom can be felt but not seen, the Lord Jesus Christ who can be seen but cannot felt, and God the Father whom no man has seen nor can feel.
The parallel is obvious for mankind has a body that can be seen, and inside it he has a soul that cannot be seen, and he himself (to have life) has to have the spirit in him called the “spirit of man.” He receives the “Spirit of God” when he is “born again” and finds fulfillment of “that which is born of the Spirit is spirit” (John 3:6). A transgender has expressed the highest degree of dissatisfaction with their God-decreed composition. The complaint is displeasure with the body (physical gender), a discontentment with their soul which is the seat of emotions, and an unfulfilled spirit which lacks any communication with the Creator. A physical rearrangement cannot provide relief for a tortured soul or an empty spirit. To register a protest against God would be a recognition of His existence and an acknowledgement of His wisdom when He created male and female. It’s much more convenient to leave God out of the equation and reduce the entire issue to a medical problem which is in desperate need of treatment.
John 4 records an encounter Jesus Christ had with a lonely, rejected woman who had experienced on numerous occasions a different identity. She admitted that the relationships with six different men did not produce the happiness she craved. With pity in His heart, the Lord furnished an answer to her hunger that is light years beyond any psychobabble. Addressing the third and most important of her trichotomy, Jesus said: “God is a Spirit; and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24). The teaching couldn’t be clearer; a spiritual nature is activated at the new birth which provides a vehicle for true enlightenment and worship. It’s hard to imagine anyone who has experienced the “amazing grace” of salvation, and the daylight of truth penetrating the darkness of their soul being angry at God for His selection of their gender. Jesus indicated the remedy was in the realm of the spiritual which is a land where most psychiatrists, surgeons, educators, and politicians have no map.
Mark 5 introduces us to a man who was living beyond the outer limits of sanity. His condition was so extreme that he “had his dwelling among the tombs; and no man could bind him, no, not with chains….And always, night and day, he was in the mountains, and in the tombs, crying, and cutting himself with stones.” I have no idea if this maniac struggled with gender identity issues or not but no reasonable person could classify this guy as happy. He was identified as a man “with an unclean spirit.” To keep it as simple as possible, this tomb raider was plagued with a spiritual trouble that exceeded anything that could be diagnosed in the sphere of the body or soul. The difficulty was much deeper, requiring a Great Physician with intimate knowledge of “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness.” To reject that image and its intended use is to court disaster in the spirit and all other areas subjected to a trickledown effect. Jesus dealt with the man, applying spiritual surgery to a broken life. He was later observed as “sitting, and clothed, and in his right mind; and they were afraid.” The local citizens seemed to be quite comfortable with the lunatic running loose and terrorizing the community, but were afraid when the power of Jesus Christ neutralized the insanity.
Some things never change! Science can find no adequate answers for unnatural behavior, and so in an effort to be recognized as the gatekeepers of all knowledge, they simply classify it as normal or at least acceptable. But if it was acceptable, Jesus wouldn’t have fixed it. Normal is what God declares it to be…”male and female created he them.”
