Those who pay close attention have long suspected that Washington and all of its tentacles was indeed a large oxygen sucking, environmentally hazardous swamp managed by the good ol’ boys’ and girls’ clubs. The Democrats (the girls' club) and the Republicans (the boys’ club) appear to be different on their authorized platforms, but the stark reality is their unofficial code of conduct is as similar as vampires and the walking dead. Their greatest fear is being replaced by anything that propagates life rather than fresh air and expectancy. The stagnation of the swamp is familiar and comfortable to the alligators and snakes; any attempts to drain their surroundings demands their agreed upon co-existence to attack the intruders. They will bite, spin and poison any who threaten the wonderful world of the Machiavellian and its dark shadows.
Solomon well said: “The thing that hath been, it is that which shall be; and that which is done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun” (Ecclesiastes 1:9). The protection of the Establishment is as old as humanity itself, consequently, it serves us well to examine past performances to develop a better understanding of modern behavior.
“Then there arose certain of the synagogue, which is called the synagogue of the Libertines, and Cyrenians, and Alexandrians, and of them of Cilicia and of Asia, disputing with Stephen. And they were not able to resist the wisdom and the Spirit by which he spake” (Acts 6:9,10). As the narrative continues the implication is obvious: Stephen made the heavyweights look stupid with superior wisdom and common sense. The Harvard elites could not tolerate an inferior presentation of themselves in the public view which resulted in: “Then they suborned (bribed) men, which said, we have heard him speak blasphemous words against Moses, and against God.” The accusation was completely false, but the corrupt media was happy to run the dossier. In his defense, Stephen preached a message rehearsing the history of Israel emphasizing their sins, failures, and dumb decisions. This was received like a set of chapped lips. The only recourse of the swamp was to assassinate the messenger.
The methane of the marsh (otherwise known as gas bags) consider themselves to be members of a very exclusive club. Congress, the liberal media and influential fellows of academia relish the role of the privileged. Some things never change! “And the next Sabbath day came almost the whole city together to hear the word of God. But when the Jews saw the multitudes, they were filled with envy, and spake against those things which were spoken by Paul, contradicting and blaspheming” (Acts 13:44.45). Paul held a rally and gathered a crowd that would never accommodate the oligarchs and then proceeded to suggest that God was turning His primary attention toward the Gentiles (the commoners in the eyes of the aristocracy) which went over like a pregnant pole vaulter. “But the Jews stirred up the devout and honourable women, and the chief men of the city, and raised persecution against Paul and Barnabas, and expelled them (impeachment) out of their coasts.”
The green-eyed monster of envy continued to follow Paul like a hound on a bobcat: “But the Jews which believed not, moved with envy, took unto them certain lewd fellows of the baser sort, and gathered a company, and set all the city on an uproar” (Acts 17:5). The inhabitants of the ivory towers have always had the ability to find, and if necessary, pay the “baser sort” to march, demonstrate and protest on their behalf. Jealousy always finds a target at which to shoot and a pretense upon which to fire. Envy shoots at others and wounds herself as in the case of the media over the past two years.
When networks lose ratings, lavish travel, benefit packages are threatened and pork barrel politics are challenged, the fangs are laid bare. “For a certain man named Demetrius, a silversmith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftmen; whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth. Moreover, ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying that they be no gods, which are made with hands” (Acts 19:24-26). Paul had not been throughout all Asia which serves as a reminder that bald-faced lies or at the least, gross exaggerations are the order of the day.
Since God knows and understands the inner workings of the human heart and imaginations (Psalm 139:2), He occupies the position of accurately predicting the future. These revelations are based not only on infinite omnipotence but also on recorded history. But alas, the only thing men learn from history is that men don’t learn from history.
