California is burning up, but its Democratic Congressional delegates are missing in action. The general rule has always been that disasters of this proportion garner the personal presence and attention of the district’s representatives. It has long been thought that free television appearances in the midst of these catastrophes benefit politicians greatly. So what could be so critical to keep them away from the cameras?
Oh, yes---we have been instructed that our Republic and our Constitution are hanging by a threat and all that our forefathers fought, bled, and died for will surely collapse if Donald Trump is not impeached. Mother Pelosi has told us so. In truth, the sole motivation for the Democrats’ existence since inauguration day has been the removal of this duly elected president. Amazingly, the country is better off in all aspects than it was under the previous administration. What a strange contradiction!
History provides ample examples of this sort of blind, raging hatred with the Scriptures making their own contribution. God, better than anyone, understands the depths of human depravity and how low it will go to declare victory over righteousness. No one is pretending that Mr. Trump is a personal stalwart of virtue, but his policies of employment over welfare, destroying rather than placating an enemy, demanding fair trade and, in general, “America First” are all founded on the principles of a righteous Book.
Saul, the first king over Israel, started out well enough, but a lust for increased power took his administration on a sharp left-hand turn. His first great blunder was assuming the state should be in charge of religious activity. Saul presumed to occupy the role of the priest when he offered a burnt offering: “..and Samuel (the prophet) said to Saul, thou hast done foolishly: thou hast not kept the commandment of the Lord thy God, which he commanded thee: for now would the Lord have established thy kingdom upon Israel for ever. But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the Lord hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the Lord hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the Lord commanded thee” (I Samuel 13:13,14). From that rebuke forward, Saul’s paranoia accelerated at warp speed.
Not to be outdone by history, the modern Left has insisted that America worship at the altar of education, fake science, evolution, and environmental causes. The consequences of the deception is a violent hatred toward the opposition. God gave Israel a subsequent victory over the Philistines by tricking them to fight amongst themselves (I Samuel 14:16). Saul, anxious to take credit for the victory, came up with a foolhardy idea: “And the men of Israel were distressed that day: for Saul had adjured the people, saying, Cursed be the man that eateth any food until evening, that I may be avenged on mine enemies. So none of the people tasted any food” (I Samuel 14:24).
To complicate matters, the army came “to a wood; and there was honey upon the ground. And when the people were come to the wood, behold, the honey dropped: but no man put his hand to his mouth: for the people feared the oath.” After all, the edicts of the government are to be feared, even if they represent true insanity. Saul’ son, Jonathan, didn’t hear his father’s self-gratifying statement; therefore, he did the common sense thing and ate some honey. When it was discovered, the king was ready to kill his own son and would have if the people had not intervened. Donald Trump offered some honey - let’s do some things to make Americans feel good about their country again! The people agreed in an honest election, but the opposition is furious, adhering to a “new normal” of decline.
When it became apparent to Saul that his anointed successor was David, it sent him over the edge. The young warrior not only defeated the giant Goliath but also led Israel in other military victories. The volume of people singing his praises reached a great crescendo, compounding the insanity of Saul (see I Samuel 18:6-9).
The king’s madness drove him to order the murder of 85 priests whom he perceived were supporters of David (I Samuel 22). How interesting that his hostility was directed toward those whom he first attempted to replace. By the end of Saul’s life, he is so incensed with mental malignancy that he cast his fate at the feet of the witch of Endor, begging for revelation. For the serous student, the parallels are staggering.
An interesting sidebar –the Hebrew word for Endor is Pelosi—just kidding! It’s easy to forget that Liberals have no sense of humor. Saul’s tragic conclusion is grim; he falls on his own sword (I Samuel 31:4). Does the same destiny await Adam “Doeg” Schiff?
